MINUTES OF GLOSSOPDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE PTA HELD AT THE GLOBE ON MONDAY 21 JANUARY 2008

Present: Becca Bridges, Stephanie Dunleavy, Glenis Lee, John Hart, Marion Davies, Angela Bilbruck, Phil Latchem

Apologies:
Sue N, Jo G, Rhiannon S

The meeting welcomed Angela Bilbruck to the committee as the link governor representative.

Minutes of Previous Meeting: AGM Monday, 5th November

These were presented to the meeting and included the AGM notes all were agreed as a true record.

Matters Arising:

Costings for refurbishment - most of these have now been received, this to be
of Hall 1 deferred for further decision at next meeting.

Travel Plan - Phil reported that one parent had responded and attended the meeting. The main discussion focussed on improvement of walking and cycling routes and the college buses. There was significant concern regarding the poor condition of the buses and the overcrowding that was now resulting from the removal of two of the services. The Travel Plan Group is still pushing for the provision of the yellow bus used by neighbouring authorities.

Becca reported that she had heard that there was some improvement in the behaviour on the 907.

Murder Mystery - Angela provided an outline of how this event is run and offered to provide an evening as a social/fund raising activity. She explained that there were two ways to run the event: either a small group with all attending involved as characters, or a larger group all in costume but with selected actors. A buffet or sit down dinner could be provided and a bar provided. The meeting agreed to hold an event for up to 60 with a buffet and bar at Talbot House from 7pm on 28 March 2008. All teaching and associate staff plus governors to receive notification, tickets will be £5.00 and the theme will be based on a school (oh dear, one of us is going to get murdered!). Becca to notify Gill K at T. House, Angela to organise posters, tickets and manage the event. PTA volunteers to cater the buffet - Becca will delegate!

Treasurers Report - A balance figure was not provided, however, it was reported that the high interest account is now activated and updated on a monthly basis.

Phil and Steph to produce the final finance report for the Charity Commission. There is also a need to remove members who have resigned from the trustees list.

Requests for Finance - Previously approved via email:

Gwen Osbaldeston - A-level Textiles £330 towards embellisher, it was noted that students have almost raised enough for a second machine.

Sue Johnson - black- out blinds in two classrooms (English Dept., Hadfield) to enable better use of interactive whiteboards, circa £180

Approved at meeting:

Student rewards £1000.

Judy Fenton Sri-Lanka visit £200.

The meeting was reminded of the need to continue regenerating funds via events.

Parent Councils: John Hart informed the meeting of proposals to provide Parent Councils. He advised that at the recent Governors meeting it had been proposed that the PTA is involved in this and it was agreed that Angela Bilbruck should be the link governor member to the PTA. This would therefore address the Parent Council requirements for the present. Becca and Steph gave details of a similar practice operating at the primary schools.

Gary Wilson Presentation Details of presentation were provided by Marion Davies
plus NCPTA meeting (Buxton) however this event clashed with a National Parent Teacher Presentation to be held in Buxton. After discussion it was agreed that the PTA would provide refreshments for the Gary Wilson presentation. Becca and Phil will co-ordinate and other members (Steph) will attend NCPTA presentation.

Time, date and venue of next meeting:
This to be Monday 28 April 2008 at The Globe at 7.00pm.
